PNW men’s tennis began their season winning their match against Concordia University 8-1 on Feb. 4.

The men’s tennis team concluded the Fall 2016-2017 season with an overall record of 2-0.

Lucian Tabic, head coach for PNW men’s and women’s tennis, said the team underwent significant changes. He said he expects the team to continue the foundation they started during their fall season.

“The Spring 2017 season will technically still be a part of our first year together. One of our biggest goals is solidifying the team, our structure, and establishing effective routines that will take us forward as a varsity tennis program,” Tabic said.

Tabic hopes the team will progress during the season with the ultimate goal of finishing strong in conference play.

Mario Villacres, freshman finance major, said he wants the team to get more recognition and appreciation by winning more games.

“The team’s weakness is not having the resilience to finish off matches when the finish line is near,” Villacres said. “I believe by the end of the season we will fix those errors and show the results.”

Villacres said the team has a lot of potential because the team is passionate and has multiple key returning players.

“Diego Pimentel is a key returning player,” Villacres said. “I believe he will do his job well and win vital points for the team. We also have some new key players like Ulf Grosseloh and Moritz Gisy. They definitely bring a new edge to the team.”

The PNW men’s tennis team returns five members from the 2015-16 season.

Villacres said he tries to motivate team members whenever they are in a match.

“We will work as a team by focusing on training and doing the correct things,” Villacres said.

Jacob Adams, freshman electrical engineering major, said he has high expectations for the new season.

“For this season, we have been working on everything. We also have been working on playing the point out longer and trying to minimize mistakes,” Adams said. “I believe these will make good results for the team.”
