New assistant coach brings a winning spirit
A former college basketball star who served as an assistant coach at University of Illinois at Springfield is PNW’s new assistant men’s basketball coach.
Nic Reynolds, who helped lead UIS to 14 wins last season during his single season at the school, will also serve as PNW’s coordinator of facilities and events.
“Nic is a winner whose work ethic is off the charts, which helped him become a two-time All-American as a player,” said Brian Roberts, head basketball coach. “Nic has a strong ability to build authentic relationships quickly because of his character, and his personality translates well to our staff and Purdue Northwest. I’m really excited to add Nic to our staff and get to work as we move the PNW Basketball family forward.”
Before Springfield, Reynolds spent one season as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Columbia (MO) College. During his playing career at Columbia, he was a leading scorer, averaging 12.3 points per game. He was a starter both junior and senior years. He was a two-time captain, a three-time all-conference honoree and received NAIA All-American status twice in his playing career. He led the Columbia Cougars to the national tournament all four seasons and amassed an impressive 109 wins in his career.
“I am ecstatic … to join the PNW Pride,” said Reynolds. “I love the game of basketball and being able to stay around the game with a great group of people is a blessing. Basketball has given me so much and I am excited to be able to give that back.”
As facilities and events coordinator, Reynolds will help the assistant athletic director for Facilities with planning, organizing, scheduling and executing the use of athletic facilities for athletic, recreational, intramural and club sport events. He will also coordinate camps and clinics and assist in game day operations for home events at the Hammond and Westville campuses.
Last season, the men’s Pride basketball had 10 wins, 18 losses.
