Chancellor Emeritus James Yackel, who served as chancellor of Purdue University Calumet from 1990-2001, died last month. He led the university during a time of growth in enrollment, student scholarship dollars, new undergraduate and graduate degrees, partnership activity with business and industry, and off-campus access opportunities to higher education. During his tenure, the university built the Classroom Office Building (CLO) and the buildings that now house the Center for Healthy Living and the Counseling Center for students, and the White Lodging Center for Hospitality and Tourism Management. Purdue Calumet is a processor institution of PNW. Yackel, a professor of mathematical sciences, joined the Purdue Calumet staff in 1987 after 21 years on the Purdue West Lafayette faculty. He served as vice chancellor for Academic Affairs prior to being named Chancellor.
