The Indiana Department of Natural Resources has just awarded a $250,000 grant to train arborists from underserved and disadvantaged Northwest Indiana communities. PNW is a partner in the effort, which aims to fill the shortage of arborists in the Region. The need has grown since a multi-year tree planting effort led by CommuniTree, the Region’s flagship urban and community forestry program has planted more than 10,000 trees here. These trees require professional management provided by trained certified arborists.
