After weeks of preparation, the Pride men’s tennis team is poised to start its season on Saturday.
“We’ve been practicing and getting ready for season for a while now” said Pedro Díaz Camacho, a Mechanical Engineering major from Spain. “Practices have been difficult, and everyone is putting in a lot of effort to get ready for the season.”
The mission in practice has been to build chemistry with the team. Díaz Camacho said players have come to understand what is expected of them.
“My job is to compete, give it my all on the court, and bring energy, intensity and consistency to every game,” he said.
The tough practices have formed the players into a team, according to Díaz Camacho, who said the players have bonded as they honed their competitiveness.
“One of the best things so far has been how well the team has worked together during the preseason,” he said. “The team has been working hard, and everyone is excited to play.”
Though optimistic, Díaz Camacho said the team needs to keep working on details that can win games.
“We’re still working on being consistent and following through when things get hard,” he said. “Those are things that matter a lot when the games start.”
Díaz Camacho admits that he, too, can improve.
“I’m happy with my level of game, but I know I can do better,” he said. “I’m putting in all the effort I can to improve every day and be ready for the season.”
“My goal is to keep getting better and try and win every game,” Diaz Camacho said. “Our goal as a team is to play well, stay focused and get to the national championships.”
