After serving as interim dean of students for nearly a year, Britt Hudson has been named to the role full-time.
Hudson, who joined the university in 2019, has seen a transformation at PNW.
“It has changed a lot,” she said. “In the last seven years we went through the pandemic and … the students have changed so much.”
While some people are put off by rapid transformation, Hudson said she enjoys it.
“Part of the reason why I got into higher education was because no two days are the same,” she said. “The students have changed so much in 7 years. … That is my favorite part.”
Hudson acknowledges that changes will follow with her promotion to the dean of students.
“I won’t be able to spend as much time on the smaller issues,” she said. “[I] will be … tackling … the concerns and issues that we see on the university from an administrative perspective.”
While her focus may change, Hudson said the ultimate mission will not. “I want to know what the students need and what they are looking for in their experience at PNW and how I can be a part of that,” she said. “It is the most important thing. It doesn’t make sense to be a dean of students if you don’t know the students.
“A lot of times students do not feel like their voices are … heard,” Hudson said. “I want more opportunities for them to be able to connect with me and the rest of my team and other resources on campus. I want the students to know that they have somebody on their side,” she said. “We want to connect students to as many resources as possible.
“If their basic needs are met, it’s a lot easier for them … to focus on being a student and … getting good grades,” said Hudson. “We want students to understand that we have a lot of resources on campus to help but we also have a lot of resources off campus to help them.”
Hudson said doors open to students who take advantage of all college experiences offer.
“College is the sweetest opportunity to make whatever you want possible,” she said.
