If you’re interested in creating and editing your own content the Film & Broadcast club is for you.
“[The] majority of us students grew up in the online age, we grew up on YouTube. We grew up on video. We grew up surrounded by it,” said Madason Brown, a senior Communication student who is club president. “So, learning how to make the content you enjoy watching gives you a bigger appreciation for the content.”
The club also helps students to get an audience for their work.
“We currently have a project that people are working on, creating a 60-second skit based on a prompt we gave them,” said Brown. “We will be uploading it to YouTube to get what they created out there.”
Since students of varied backgrounds can join, the club is hosting a workshop to teach members how to edit their videos.
“We have a bunch of things coming up … where we show people how to use [Adobe] Premiere Pro and CapCut, so a paid software and a free one,” she said.
Members are encouraged to collaborate on projects.
“Clubs have a very social aspect to them, so of course working together is always encouraged and learning how other people are creative and what their creative talents are is super important to any creative field in general,” said Brown.
Club advisor Jake Giles, who teaches Broadcast and serves as executive producer of the “Roundtable Perspective” television show, has been working to make the Film & Broadcast club a creative freedom for students of different majors.
“We have a lot of students that want to do projects or create things, but there’s not always an easy avenue to do that in the courses themselves, so I think the club offers a great opportunity to accomplish some of those things,” said Giles.
