Junior Madison Murchek likes the fact that the university has a lot of things going on, including the many events that PNW organizes to make a harmonious community.
“My favorite thing about PNW is all of the events we have,” said Murchek, an Elementary Education major. “I feel like we are able to create a tight-knit community, and it is easy to find and make friends here.
“My favorite PNW event is Roaring Loud,” she said. “It is so awesome to be able to go to a free concert with my friends and peers and enjoy the food and the sense of community it creates.
“Everybody here is always really kind,” said Murchek. “And what is the worst that could happen if you just walk up to somebody here and introduce yourself and ask about their major. Everyone here is really friendly.”
PNW has over ninety student organizations including cultural organizations, hobby clubs, and professional clubs. These organizations work towards getting PNW students involved with their school and their fellow peers. PNW student clubs and organizations include numerous events that can lead students towards career goals, academia goals, and supporting their community. The Student Life Calendar lists the many events and clubs that PNW has to offer.
She said the fact that so much is going on appeals to many people who live near one of the campuses.
“There is an event for everyone here at PNW,” Murchek said. “There is trivia, picnics, movie nights, and even speed dating.
“I live less than five minutes away [from Hammond] so that was part of the appeal of why I wanted to come to PNW in the first place … because of the convenience,” she said. “I did have some friends who went to other Indiana schools but most people that I know did come to PNW … It just has such a good reputation.”
Plus, she said, it’s easy to make new friends.
“If you are not super shy, you can just walk up to somebody here and just start up a conversation,” Murchek said. “If you are … more reluctant … you can always join one of the many clubs here at PNW.”
