Adamary Cruz-Mejia has launched her New Year’s resolutions with determination.
Despite her busy schedule as a sophomore Psychology major and captain of the PNW dance team, Cruz-Mejia has three goals for 2025: reduce social media use, live in the present, and embrace challenges that push her out of her comfort zone.
She anticipates some obstacles, particularly with social media, which she said she tends to “endlessly scroll before going to bed, so that will be something I will struggle with.”
Cruz-Mejia recognizes this wastes time and wants to put healthier habits into play before her head hits the pillow at night.
She also expects living in the moment may be challenging with so many distractions about the future.
Particularly important to Cruz-Mejia is doing things that will get her out of her comfort zone.
“A challenge that I know I will face when trying new things, is worrying about the outcome,” she said, adding that it is scary putting oneself in uncomfortable situations because there is uncertainty involved.
She plans to keep focused on her resolutions through “positive affirmations and journaling”. And she said she knows keeping them will offer real benefits.
“Taking time to live in the moment, do productive things, and seek out new adventures will allow me to be the best version of myself until the next improved version arrives,” said Cruz-Mejia.
