You probably wouldn’t guess it by looking at her, but Brianna Kraus’ secret talent is rapping.
“Most songs with a catchy beat and fast-paced lyrics are my jam,” said the sophomore majoring in both Psychology and English. “I know almost every single word to most of Eminem’s greatest hits and pretty much any popular tunes where the artist is rapping at a million miles a minute, like ‘Look at Me Now’ by Chris Brown’.
“I love music alongside psychology and writing,” said Kraus. “It’s a passion of mine. …I’m currently going through a [Christian rapper] NF phase. I am obsessed with his music right now because the way he raps about different versions of himself is insanely cool.”
She understands that rapping is not what people would associate with her.
Rapping isn’t something new for Kraus. She has been attracted to it since she was a young girl.
“I found out I could rap pretty fast when I first heard ‘Baby Got Back’ by Sir Mix-A-Lot at around 5 or 6 years old,” she said. “I learned those lyrics before I learned how to multiply or divide. I listened to it on my Kindle Fire without my parents knowing.”
Kraus likes to share her rapping skills with loved ones, but makes clear that she has no allusions of making it her career.
“I share this talent with friends and family because I think it’s fun,” she said. “Rapping doesn’t tie into either of the career fields I’m pursuing at PNW, but like Eminem says in his single ‘Lose Yourself’: You got one shot, do not miss your chance to blow, this opportunity comes once in a lifetime.”
