Cesar Andrade is PNW’s free throw champion.
Andrade, a freshman, went 44-for-50 in the 18th Annual Intramural Free Throw Contest. He beat Darien Thompson, director of Student Success, by two shots.
It started a little rough for Andrade, who missed his first two shots.
“I knew that if I got a rhythm going, I would be able to keep the flow for all 50 shots,” he said.
Then he did. Now Andrade plans to show up every year.
“I am going to try and defend my title all four years,” he said.
Matt Dudzik, assistant athletic director for Intramurals and Facilities, said the Free Throw Contest is just one of many activities PNW offers to help students decompress from the pressures of school.
“We try to cater to as many students [as possible] by having something for everyone,” said Dudzik.
“If you are at the event, you already have one similar interest with everyone in attendance,” he said, adding that he wants to give students “one night to blow off steam while still being involved in school activities.”
Andrade, who never before participated in the contest, is hooked.
“It gave me something to look forward to,” he said.
