Maddy Victor is too busy to make plans for spring break.
“I have nothing planned for spring break,” said Victor, a junior Nursing student. “My brother lives in Florida so I was thinking about getting a flight down there and spending it with him because I haven’t seen him since Christmas. But I procrastinate a lot so I haven’t even looked at flights yet.”
The reason is simple: She’s too busy.
“No, I can’t [procrastinate in school]. I’ll fall behind,” Victor said. “In high school I did for sure, but I can’t now. I have a … spreadsheet with all the due dates for my assignments in all of my classes.”
Despite not having made plans yet, Victor admits that she is excited about not having to think about school or study for a week.
“I guess it will be nice to get a break from school and have somewhat of a life back,” she said.
She even hopes to spend a little time in the warmth and sun of Florida, visiting her brother.
“My ideal spring break scenario would be me and my girlfriends flying out to somewhere warm like Florida,” said Victor. “Florida would be nice because we can stay with my brother and not have to pay for a hotel or Airbnb. We are all easy-going and will be at our happiest just sitting in the sun. We are all in nursing school so doing anything other than studying is what we look forward to.”
Ultimately, though, she’d be happy to spend a week somewhere warm – even if it’s not Florida.
“My favorite spring break was a long time ago when I was in middle school,” said Victor. “My family and I went to Arizona for the first time to visit their friends and it was the coolest thing ever.
“Right away I noticed the temperature change just from the plane landing,” she said. “When we got in the car I was finally able to see outside and the first things I remember seeing were the clear blue sky, orange sand and a cactus. It’s just so different from here and I love that.”
