Kyle Casey has learned to juggle school and work.
“It’s hard to balance work, school and life you know,” said the sophomore History major. “Especially when it comes to assignment due dates.
“I’ve made sure that my job is conducive to my school, and not the other way around,” he said. “Prioritizing school over work … is more important for the future.”
Casey said that’s easier to do in cold-weather months.
“Customers aren’t as frequent during the winter season,” he said. “They don’t give us work then, which makes my life easier, and I only have to deal with school. Obviously, … the assignment loads for midterm and finals week can be a bit tough, but it’s college.
“Although sometimes it does seem hard to balance work and school life, I never regret having a job as it allows me to have financial resources,” he said. “It teaches me … things that I can expect going into my career.”
“So, the calendar options that the school provides like on BrightSpace and calendar connectivity is something I desire,” he said. “It really jives with me.”
While balancing work and school is important, Casey believes it’s just as important to carve out social time.
“I still make sure to have a lot of time for friends,” he said. “I try to ensure that, and I know it’s easy at this school at least. … Not to have classes on Friday and on those days I mostly go out with my friends, if they’re around.
“Of course, they’re at different schools as well,” said Casey. “So it’s hard sometimes.”
