The PNW women’s basketball team currently has a 10-3 overall record, with a 6-0 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference record. PNW is ranked #15 in the NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball Coaches’ poll.

The PNW women’s basketball team has had five straight 20 win seasons coming into the 2016-2017 season.

Tom Megyesi, women’s basketball head coach, has liked what he has seen so far. He said the team still needs to make some improvements.

“Lately we have been playing better defense but we need to improve the execution of our offense,” Megyesi said. “We are getting better every day.”

Megyesi hopes the team can qualify for the national tournament and have a successful postseason.

“Our major goal is to qualify for the national tournament and we need to have an impressive win and loss record,” Megyesi said. “Every game matters.”

In the game against Trinity International University on Dec. 3, Heather Burton, sophomore guard, led the team in scoring with 14 points. Ellie Michalski, junior forward, led in rebounds.

If the PNW women’s basketball team wins every game this season against CCAC opponents, they would host the CCAC tournament later in the year.

Katie Wampler, senior forward, said she is optimistic about the progress of the team. Wampler believes the team can be CCAC champions again and can also go undefeated in CCAC conference play.

“We really need to stay unbeaten in the conference because we want PNW to have the conference and win it here,” Wampler said.

The women’s basketball team’s most recent win was a conference victory against Holy Cross College, 91-77 on Dec 6.

The team will travel to Robert Morris University on Dec. 10 for their next CCAC game.
