Despite widespread concerns about the move from Google to Microsoft 365, some students say they are eager for the switch.
“Given that the professional environment that we live in is mostly based on Microsoft products, especially PowerPoint and Word, I think it is a good move,” said Sebastian Merida, a junior Cybersecurity major.
“There will be hiccups … but I believe that it will be a seamless transition as long as we have a good professional team, which PNW has proven to have,” he said. “I do worry about losing my files, which is inevitable with data transfers, but the school is known to have backups of everything, including our emails. Other than that, I’m not worried about the switch.”
Izavian Feliciano, a sophomore Electrical Engineering Technology major, looks forward to the change.
“I like the switch to Microsoft. I like the Microsoft applications like Word and Excel a lot,” he said. “I think it will be a good switch [but]… a lot of students and teachers don’t use Microsoft every day. People are probably going to have questions and get stuck. It will work eventually but not right away.”
Keagan Young, a junior Nursing major, agrees.
“Personally, I’m not too mad about the switch and I think Microsoft 365 is here to stay,” said Young. “Workspace was a little more difficult to navigate through compared to Microsoft 365 and keeping track of my files has been way more convenient.”
“Microsoft 365 is almost like a more updated version of Workspace,” he said. “I do … think the switch will go smoothly but it’ll take a little bit of time. When a new system like this is put in place of another it’s sometimes hard to get out of your own comfort zone.”
