Though he’s just a few months away from graduation, David Bolton is really concerned about the future of PNW.
Two-term president of the Student Government Association (SGA), Bolton feels he has a stake in what happens to students at the university.
“One of my big jobs was to set a vision for SGA and make sure the student’s voices are heard,” he said. “You can listen all day long, but the key is to make sure the student voices are heard and put into action, and that’s what we do. We put into action what the students want to see.
“I stood to represent the student’s voice, and for me, that means the positive, the negative and the in-between,” said Bolton.
During his two years as president, he has helped to rebuild SGA, which had lost delegates and participation.
“Starting off, it was me and like two other members,” he said. “Now we are up to about 17 members in SGA.”
Over the years, Bolton has built relationships with administration, faculty and staff. He sat on the Faculty Senate to represent the students and met with advisors. He also sat on the search committee that identified the university’s new chancellor.
As president, Bolton helped to introduce several student activities and initiatives, including the Winter Wonderland Ball in 2022.
“I wanted to have a formal dance and provide people with a prom experience,” he said. “It turned out to be a good event that had over 250 people.”
A Communication major, Bolton plans to return to PNW after graduation to pursue a master’s in Psychology or Communication. He said he might consider continuing his work with SGA.
“There will be a lot of other SGA members graduating… and there will be a lot of positions that need to be filled,” he said.
