Student athletes show they have more than just brawn
The school’s student athletes are fighting the stereotype of “dumb jock” by setting a new collective GPA record of 3.43 during the spring 2020 semester.
It is the second consecutive semester that all 13 NCAA varsity programs achieved team average GPAs of 3.0 or higher.
The Women’s Golf team led the Pride with a new collective GPA record of 3.85.
“I’m very proud of these young women and the amazing work they put into their academics. They really adapted well to the change to the online format. They have set new standards for our program and our athletic department,” said Randy Wexter, the Head Golf Coach at PNW.
The Women’s Tennis team, the Baseball team, and the Men’s Cross Country team have also set new GPA records of 3.74, 3.48, and 3.39 respectively. In addition, 32 student athletes had achieved a 4.0 by the end of the spring semester, along with 175 student athletes who had achieved a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
To be eligible to compete athletically, the NCAA requires student athletes to maintain at least a 2.2 GPA.
