The university is trying to make it easier for students to get the help they need.
PNW has announced the launch of the Student Success Hub, which will eventually coordinate a variety of student services in one spot in hopes of improving student retention and graduation.
“The Hub will be the one-stop shop for students to fully connect and engage with student services,” said Catrina Terrell, assistant director of Student Coaching and Mentoring. “The goal is to promote a culture where help is easily accessible, proactive and proudly visible.
“The rollout is staggered because we want every resource involved to have time to complete all steps necessary to fully integrate into the network,” she said. “Quality of service is important to PNW as well, so we want to take our time and implement the Network with care and precision.”
The first phase has established the Student Success Hub at Gyte 148/148A. The core services include student success coaching, peer mentoring program and accountability groups.”
In the spring, additional resources – such as financial aid – will be added. By fall, the Hub will move to new offices in the Classroom Office Building.
“The third phase is the full launch of the Student Success Network,” said Terrell.
“The hub … is the physical location of where the student success coaches, peer mentors, and assistant director will be, and space for other units,” said Catharine Olsen, PNW’s chief of staff. “That’s just the hub. … The network is where it connects students to the services.”
No current services will go away. The Hub will serve as a one-stop-shop for students to connect with them without the hassle of looking or trying to get into contact with them.
The Hub will be easily accessible for students as a walk-in office, by appointment or referral. Since the Hub is brand new, there hasn’t been much word of its launch.
“The academic advisors are going to be our greatest asset in spreading the word of the Hub because they meet with all of the students, so they’ll be able further share information about its services to them,” said Olsen.
Provost Marie Mora said the Hub is an important initiative aimed at helping students to succeed.
“The chancellor is so invested in the success of every single student that he’s super excited about this initiative because he sees it as a way to reach all students in some way,” she said.
