Students are being targeted with emails falsely advertising positions at PNW or online for research assistants or internships, and often promise remote work opportunities and high salaries, say campus police. Th e emails often use names of real PNW faculty or staff and ask recipients to send them money by providing false checks and Beware of emails making unrealistic promises of high salaries with no training or degree requirements, use faculty names with Gmail addresses, use faculty names but 1-800 or out-of-state phone numbers or request payments via payment apps, gift cards or Western Union. If you receive such an email, forward it immediately to [email protected]. Do not contact the sender. If you have already lost money as a result of such a scam, report the incident to the Office of the Dean of Students at [email protected], or University Police at (219) 989-2220 (Hammond) or (219) 785-5220 (Westville).
