Water main in SUL bursts, resulting in flooding, damage

A toilet leak in the women’s restroom on the second floor of the Hammond campus’s SUL building on Oct. 2 resulted in damage to the cafeteria on the first floor, south stairwell and some books in the library.

Notes on the entrances of the building read “Building is temporarily closed due to flooding,” though most of the doors remained unlocked. Campus police evacuated all non-essential personnel.

Wes Lukoshus, assistant vice chancellor of Media Relations and Communications, said damaged tile has been replaced, damaged books will be replaced. Wet carpeted areas in the library have dried and the total repair/replacement costs are still being determined.
